With its city-chic décor and welcoming staff, funky cocktails and a menu that dares to be different, Brew Stone is one of the most enticing places to refuel or wind down in the Uplands, whatever the time of day.
Breakfasts at Brew Stone are something to behold, with thick bacon rashers and all the trimmings served on a cast iron skillet, homemade flatbread wraps or American pancakes dripping with syrup. The coffee isn’t half bad either – the owners looked far and wide to source the most flavoursome beans and you can taste the results.
Lunch and dinner see the giant wood-fired oven take centre stage. Every morning staff stack it with fresh logs and bring it to the perfect temperature to roll out their varied range of gourmet pizzas all through the day and night. Skillet plates like slow cooked lamb or duck with celeriac are also on offer, while those looking for light bites can enjoy a range of tasty antipasti, with wood-fired squash and freshly baked flat breads among the choices.
Like everything in Brew Stone, the drinks menu has been put together with an artist’s attention to detail. The selection of craft beers is unrivalled anywhere in the city and will keep the most seasoned connoisseur happy, while the wine and cocktail menus are equally appealing. Whisky lovers should ask bar staff to prepare a house specialty ‘Smoky Old Fashioned’ – whisky served with wood smoke for an intense and unbeatable flavour.
Brew Stone is located on Uplands Cresecnt, opposite Noah’s Yard and is open from 7.30 every morning until midnight. It hasn’t taken locals long to discover, so if you’re planning to come over the weekend booking is advisable.
